Castro tagline

February 9, 2022

Dear Castro Elementary School Community,

We are excited to announce that Gilberto Munoz has been selected as the new principal of Castro Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year. We are confident Gilberto will build upon the many strengths of Castro and that he will carry and expand Castro’s strong foundation of success for students.

Gilberto Munoz has served in Denver Public Schools since 2002. Gilberto was endorsed by the community and staff to continue his leadership at Castro Elementary School. The committee highlighted Mr. Munoz’s ability to build relationships with all stakeholders at Castro, his ability to lead humanely through a pandemic while supporting student learning, and his dedication to the Castro community. Previously Mr. Munoz has served as the Assistant Principal at Trevista and Principal at Swansea Elementary before being named the Interim Principal at the beginning of this year. Mr. Munoz has been committed to the success of students at Castro.  He is incredibly eager to continue to work with and serve students, staff, and the community to optimize student learning and experiences.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed input and feedback to the selection process. A huge thank you and my sincerest gratitude also goes out to the Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for their hard work and for being an integral part of this process. The CSC served the school community very well and their unwavering commitment to the ongoing success of Castro throughout the hiring process was apparent at every turn. We appreciate your engagement!

Look forward to more communication from Mr. Munoz soon. For the moment, please join me in welcoming  Gilberto as the principal of Castro Elementary!

With gratitude,

Veronica Maes
